Baldwin Ode Banjo Serial Numbers

This numbering code started in the early 1970's, after Baldwin moved the Ode banjo works to Arkansas from Colorado. There were several earlier numbering systems used before the buyout and the move. This one made the most sense by far. The first 2 numbers are the month, second 2 are the year, and the third 2 numbers are the individual piece. Serial number 277, which is THE earliest D in the Baldwin/Ode database. Built in Boulder, CO. Comes with the original Lifton case. It is in incredible condition, near museum quality. Completely original with the exception of two RR spikes at 7th and 9th frets.

Ultra airplane. Would anyone know what kind of banjo this would be? I've got an ODE 5 string resonator banjo that I just bought 2nd hand. Label says Model 6505 and serial 5-80-69.can't seem to find anything on the web with numbers written this way. Baldwin Ode style D, gold and engraved, walnut neck and resonator. This banjo is from the early 1970's as is indicated by 'Baldwin' inlayed as a pearl banner above 'ODE'. Also, the serial number is stamped into the rim, rather than on a paper label as was done in the Gretsch era.

Ode

This banjo is from the same production period as the one played by Jack Hicks, with Bill Monroe, in the early 1970's. The wood, gold plating and engraving is in remarkable condition. The finish has minor indications of age and use.

No repairs other than the filling of sliding 5th string capo holes. This was done by custom lathing small walnut plugs to glue into the holes.

Very neat and better looking than putty. New Weather King head installed.
